Honey Math

Honey Math is a cozy game! You choose neighboring numbers in the honeycomb cells until their sum matches the number on the honey pot.

Teacher Information

The goal is to offer an addition game based on hexagonal grids, where students must plan paths and neighborhoods to reach the target value of the honey pot.

Subject: Mathematics

  • Grade Level: 1st and 2nd Grade (Elementary School)
  • Theme Unit: Arithmetic and Geometry
  • This game aligns with foundational math learning standards and early childhood numeracy goals.

How to Play:

  • Choose your desired difficulty level from the side menu.
CHILL: 2 Cells, sums from 3 to 5
EASY: up to 9 Cells, sums from 3 to 5
MEDIUM: up to 13 Cells, sums from 3 to 10
HARD: up to 16 Cells, sums from 5 to 20

  • Look at the number indicated on the honey pot label.
  • Click on neighboring pieces/numbers on the hexagonal grid to add them up and reach the exact target value.
  • Be careful not to exceed the value or leave isolated pieces behind without a solution!
  • Complete the board by filling the honey pot to win the round.

About the Game:

There are many addition games available online, but in Honey Math, children are invited to interact with a spatial grid based on hexagons, where neighborhood and geometric position matter just as much as the math calculation. Unlike a standard quiz, it's an activity that encourages kids to think strategically about paths, anticipate moves, and discover combined results.

Logical reasoning is thus stimulated in a visual and tactile way. The dynamic resembles spatial puzzles where every choice of a neighbor alters the subsequent possibilities on the board.

Honey Math is inspired by classic board games and connection mechanics. It features a constructive-style approach where children take part in the entire process: from choosing the honeycomb cells to transporting the honey into the pot.

Best of all, it features smooth parabolic animations and cozy visual effects to make the experience much more fun!

Fun Facts:

Nature's Super Builders
Did you know that bees are true engineering masters of nature? They manage to build all the hexagons with the exact same size and fit them together perfectly without leaving any empty gaps!

What Are Hexagons For?
These six-sided shapes are super important: they serve perfectly to store all that delicious honey and also to protect the baby bees inside the hive!

Math in the Hive
Building honeycomb cells in a hexagonal shape uses less wax and makes maximum use of space. In other words, besides being hard workers, bees also understand a lot about math and economy!

The Magic Food
Honey is so incredible that it can go straight from the hive to the jar! It is the only food in the world that never spoils, so it doesn't need any chemicals to be stored for a very, very long time.
